+ You Got Kitsch?! Enter The Seven Year Kitsch show
+ August 25th, 2013 at 3:07 PM
What is Kitsch? You ask.
Wikipedia says:
Kitsch ( loanword from German) is a style of mass-produced art or design using cultural icons. The term is generally reserved for unsubstantial or gaudy works, or works that are calculated to have popular appeal. The concept of kitsch is applied to artwork that was a response to the 19th-century art with aesthetics that convey exaggerated sentimentality and melodrama, hence, kitsch art is closely associated with sentimental art.
UAG is still accepting entries for September's The Seven Year Kitsch show (also this September is UAG's and First Friday's Seventh B-day!), so send your submission to info@upstateartistsguild.org with your name, title, medium and price.

+ April 24th, 2013 at 2:27 PM
JOIN US FOR OUR SECOND ANNUAL BENEFIT FOR UAG! Last year, the Upstate Artists' Guild (UAG) faced financial challenges that threatened its existence. To help save this essential resource for the Capital Region?s art and music scenes, the Albany Sonic Arts Collective (ASAC) presented a showcase event featuring an array of local performers from the Albany area?s improvised and experimental music world. One year later, UAG?s here; ASAC?s here, and we couldn?t be happier. Once again ASAC wants to thank and give back to UAG. Please join us!

Saturday April 27, 2013

They say it is better to be late than never. Unfortunately, this is more than stylishly late, but that just means it is just that much more interesting. Or something.
